When researching into inter-titles and how they were presented. I often found that they were shown with a slow zoom out or in from the writing. This was particularly the case with the horror genre. This effect can create the effect of suspense. As the inter-titles zoom out (fast paced or slow, depending on the mood) it can engage the audience. If it’s fast paced, tension is often built and the audience has to pay attention to read the inter-titles, this is also a good way to keep them attracted and engaged throughout the trailer, because if they miss one, they may miss part of the storyline. This is therefore one of the main purposes of having inter-titles, as well as giving the film credit in the trailer, for example, inter-titles that say 'director of...' This is often used to glamorise status of the director and a previous successful film, and if the audience have seen that film and enjoyed it, they will be attracted to see the movie of the trailer they are watching.
