Blooper/Outakes

This video was made to show all the other scenes that we had filmed. It shows outtakes, takes, bloopers, and general filming of how we carried out our filming day.

Changes from draft to final

Overall i made 5 drafts
Before the drafts was a rough edit.
The first draft was what me and another group member worked on together
The second draft was my own, i had added one bit of diagetic sound and this draft did not have a party scene to start it. i wanted to see what it was like without it.
The 3rd draft i produced was to ensure i chose the right sound. in this draft i tested out a previous sound which i found in research and decided this didnt go as well as the one i origanally chosen.

My forth drafted trailer has a party scene and also has the same music as drafts 1 and 2.
However these drafts needed diagetic sounds to go in throughout the trailer. i initially thought my 4th draft was going to be my final, so after what i thought was going to be my final, i strarted working on a new video which combineded all the filming and was a 'blooper/outtake type video, from that i realised i wanted diagetic sound in my trailer as it would be more effective. i then went on to put in all the diagetic sounds from my orignal clips. I did this simply by using movie maker. I didnt want to use previously recorded sound effects from a website becuase some sounded cheesy or didnt fit well with the clip.

My fifth draft of my trailer then had the party scenes and added diagetic sounds throughtout, which are not in my drafts. However i soon found out that the music at the start of the trailer (for the party scene) i could not use due to copyright, it was an actual song and this is one of the problems i faced. if this was a real trailer with a large budget, i would be able to use this, but its not, therefore i have to change the music at the start. i also noticed that some of my diagetic sound was not in parallel to the shot, so i have to redo this to make sure the shots match the sound. i will be changing the party music to the other sound i used in my sound research (the typical party beat).

This is the 3rd draft i have made of my trailer, i wanted to be sure i chose the right sound, so in this 3rd draft i changed the sound to see if it would suit the trailer better. after i did this draft i realised i liked the other soundtrack on draft 2 better. The video below is the sound changes i made as a quick draft cheak on my sounds.

Research of intertitles and final Intertitles

When researching into inter-titles and how they were presented. I often found that they were shown with a slow zoom out or in from the writing. This was particularly the case with the horror genre. This effect can create the effect of suspense. As the inter-titles zoom out (fast paced or slow, depending on the mood) it can engage the audience. If it’s fast paced, tension is often built and the audience has to pay attention to read the inter-titles, this is also a good way to keep them attracted and engaged throughout the trailer, because if they miss one, they may miss part of the storyline.  This is therefore one of the main purposes of having inter-titles,  as well as giving the film credit in the trailer, for example, inter-titles that say 'director of...' This is often used to glamorise status of the director and a previous successful film, and if the audience have seen that film and enjoyed it, they will be attracted to see the movie of the trailer they are watching.

Institutional Logo reserach and my created Institutional Logos

Examples of Institutional logos in current horror films. These institutional logos appear at the beggining of the trailers and iv noticed this is a conventional feature of trailers overall. therefore i will place my logos at the begining of my trailer either at the start or after the first scene.

Logos i produced

As a group we all decided to make our own institutional logos for the trailer and then come together, showing what we have produced. this was a very good technique in making the logos becuase it meant we would have a wide variety to choose from. These images posted here origanl images i found that i belived would look good for an institutional logo design.

I used these images and from them made around 20 logos all with diffrent typefaces and names. I did this to ensure a wide variety of logos, having more of a choice would be benificial for the group as a whole in order to make the institutional logo stand out and be the best it could be. Below are the diffrent kinds of logos i have created.

Names for films

Names for film

1-      CheatThis name is straight to the point. It represents a part of the storyline when the girl cheats on her boyfriend. However this is all that the name gives away, this may not provide a sense of being within a horror genre.
2-      EngagedThis name comes from when the phone is engaged, not being able to get through to someone. However this name may not make great sense and may be confused with the other meaning of engaged, which is getting married.
3-      DisconnectedThis name came from when a phone becomes disconnected and is hung up. When this situation occurs, many feelings can come about, for example the idea that something is bad has happened.  For example, a power cut or the idea that someone is calling you, and you don’t know who they are but they keep disconnecting the phone, which is a also a major part of the storyline. The fact that the caller is unknown can be quite scary if they continuously call.
4-      AloneThis name is very simple, and would clearly represent someone feeling or being alone, mentally or physically and not having someone in a time of distress.
5-      Be mine (Forever)This name refers to the situation in the narrative of the main character cheating on her boyfriend. This idea of him being cheated on, caused him to want to kill the girlfriend ‘be mine’ or ‘be mine forever’ highlighted that he would kill her, and she may not be anyone else’s, because she will die his girlfriend.
6-      The unknownThis is again a very simple name, straight to the point. It highlights the caller being unknown in the storyline, a Unknown caller, not leaving the main character alone.
7-      The creeperThe creeper was an interesting name as it underlines someone creeping on the girl. However I realised this name was too similar to a movie that has already been made. I wanted to choose something different, rather than something that’s already in the market.
8-      AbnormalThe word abnormal describes the boyfriends actions when he wants to kill his girlfriend for cheating. Many would feel this pain and want to do this, but not actually go out of their way to do it.
9-      PreyPrey was a word that showed what the girl would be to her boyfriend after she cheated. He would hunt her down like he was an animal hunting his `prey’.
10-   DeceivedThis name clearly represents what the girl did to her boyfriend when she cheated. She deceived him. However this name is boring and plain, it doesn’t give much away and is not very creative.

Other names i thought of were
11-   Killer
12-   The unwanted
13-   Downfall
14-   The passing
15-   Her last move
16-   Never again

Filming day one- Thursday 25th November 2010

This was everything we filmed and did on the first filming day. the video above was made as a rough draft for the beginning of our trailer. Most of this is in picuture form and we decided to this as it was slightly diffrent and more creative then just filming with a video camera. We were very happy with this rough draft and now had the second day of filming to make the other half of our trailer.

Camera test

This is a test shot we carried out before the actual filming took place. we carried out this test shot on the 25th of november in order to get an idea on how one of our scenes would turn out. By looking at this test shot, we clearly understood how its easy for everything to go very wrong if scenes were not planned out and mise en scene and shot types were not considered. This test shot for example, had all the wrong lighting, props and costume were considered but the shots or angles were not the ones we particularly wanted. the camera was shakey and this test shot gave us a great idea of what not to do and what do ensure we consider when filming our trailer.

making of Animatic and the final animatic

Above you can see our groups final animatic that we produced by using windows movie maker. the process of making the animatic is shown below. firstly we canned out story board sketches onto the computer and opened them into photoshop to scale them down to an appropriate size.
